SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Siouxland Youth Hockey took to the rink Sunday to show young girls that hockey is the sport for them.
The free event gave girls ages four-years-old and up the opportunity to try out hockey. Coaches said there were around 20 kids that have never played hockey before so it was fun teaching them the basics.Local organization hoping to raise funds through axe throwing
Kenneth Bolles, the girls hockey director of Siouxland Youth Hockey, said he hopes the young girls share with there friends and spread the word about hockey to get more people involved in the club.
“So today we have our Girls Try Hockey event just to get out in the community and show girls, ‘Hey. Hockey is present in Siouxland, and it’s not as hard as you think,’ Bolles said. “And were trying to get them to sign up so we can get a program up and running, so more numbers so we can get to traveling. We just want to be on the cutting edge and show them that we have a program in the Siouxland comunity.”
Siouxland Youth Hockey offers the free skating for girls every Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the ibp Ice Center.
